People have tried all sorts of ways to lose weight in their never ending battle with their expanding midsections. There are fad diets that seem to pop up weekly, metabolism boosting pills and diet supplements, and all sorts of “Fat Busting” exercise machine being pedaled on TV infomercials. Many times we get taken in by all the hype only to find out that what is being advertised does not quite mesh with reality. The truth is that if we give our body the nutrients that it needs by eating healthy foods that promote weight loss our chances of successfully losing weight are much greater. What happens when we eat healthy nutritious food? Our bodies respond by increasing our metabolism, which in turn helps to promote weight loss. Now while this is rather simplified and weight loss can require a little more commitment as far as exercising and eating the right foods, the fact is that eating right is the best way if you want to increase your metabolism and lose weight. Understanding how our body’s use and store energy is an important point to understand when it comes to metabolism. Our cells metabolize energy from the protein, carbohydrates and fats that we eat. These energy sources come in many different forms and our body’s metabolism is affected by what forms we get them from. In the case of fats our bodies have very little trouble converting them directly into fat stores for future use. Because fats tend to get sent directly to fat storage the body doesn’t use much energy, or calories, quickly storing them away as fat. The majority of most people’s diets consist of refined or processed foods. These are known as simple carbohydrates and they usually come from foods that include refined sugars. The body tends to use little energy processing these refined sugars and easily turns them into fat. Eating to much refined sugars is known to lead to insulin resistance, which is a affliction in which the body’s cells begin to conflict with insulin’s ability to let glucose to enter the cells for metabolic functions. This leads to raised blood sugar which the body will change to fat storage. When trying to increase metabolism it is vital to eat foods that are high in complex carbohydrates and proteins, which will help promote weight loss. The energy required to break down proteins and complex carbohydrates is much higher than the calories required to metabolize processed foods. Eating nutritious foods that promote weight loss results in more calories being burned just to digest and metabolize the nutrients in them. Foods that promote weight loss and are high in complex carbohydrates also have the ability to increase metabolism in another way. The body’s digestive system must work more briskly to digest the critical nutrients in complex carbohydrates. Simple carbohydrates and sugars require much less energy to transform for the body’s digestive system. This longer lasting digestive process allows the energy in complex carbohydrates to be used as a more balanced energy source. This balanced energy release gives our body’s the calories it needs during the course of the day without the never-ending need to partake of sweet sugary foods. It also results in less insulin being released into the blood stream which is key to living a healthy life. The energy spikes caused by sugary and fatty foods create high and low energy periods which tempt us into eating more foods that are not only unhealthy but also add to existing fat stores. Fruits and vegetables comprise most of the complex carbohydrates that we consume. Not only do they supply complex carbohydrates they can also help to increase metabolism in another way. Because of their high fiber content our body’s have need for more calories to digest them. This how the theory behind “negative calorie” foods that promote weight loss was found. The philosophy behind a negative calorie food is simply that some foods have fewer calories then it takes the body to digest them. This increase in metabolism from negative calorie foods that promote weight loss can burn excess body fat and start the weight loss routine. By adding a metabolism boosting exercise routine to a healthy diet you can take your weight loss and health to a whole new level.

In today’s world of highly advertised fad diets, it is very difficult for us to know which foods are actually healthy and which foods are not. This program says not to eat an apple, while this other program tells us it keeps the doctor away. Once and for all, we need to know which foods are nutritious so we can all jump off the weight loss roller coaster.
Before I get into the details, it is important to stress that weight loss without proper nutrition is not the road you want to take. No magic pill will ever give you the benefits of eating properly. Stop looking for short cuts and get serious about your health. It is the only way to live a lifestyle that is free of the threats of disease, poor health and obesity.
Healthy Foods Tip #1: Green Vegetables
Vegetables such as spinach and cabbage are very significant in maintaining a healthy body. They are rich in vitamins and minerals. How do they help accelerate weight loss? They are water-rich, which means you are actually filling yourself up with liquids instead of fatty calories.
Healthy Foods Tip #2: Fatty Fish
Did you read that right? Yes, it says fatty! Oily fish such as salmon, mackerel and sardines have omega-3 fats. Despite all the hoopla surrounding the fat-free weight loss craze, your body does in fact need good fat for optimal weight loss performance. Omega-3 fats also takes care of our heart. It prevents stroke and lowers bad cholesterol in our body.
Healthy Foods Tip #3: Green Tea
Anti-oxidants rid our bodies of free radials that can cause damage to our cells and slow the process of healthy weight loss. Green tea offers such a powerful supply of anti-oxidants and vitamins that it has been known to accelerate metabolism by drinking only one cup per day. Tomatoes, red grapes and blueberries are also beneficial for the same reasons, but on a smaller scale.
Healthy Foods Tip #4: Citrus fruits
Oranges, lemons, limes and other citrus fruits are all high in Vitamin C. That helps to prevents colds, asthma and arthritis. What happens when your body is functioning without illness? It performs better! When your body gets the right nutrition, it can perform its own miracles…like giving you more energy and burning off extra weight.
Healthy Foods Tip #5: Carrots
Have you ever heard someone say carrots were unhealthy? I guess they would be if you ate tons of them every day, just like anything else that is abused. The reality is that carrots are good source of Vitamin A and promotes better eyesight. It only takes a half cup worth to work like magic to accelerate healthy weight loss.
Healthy Foods Tip #6. Bananas
This fruit is so nutrition that even monkeys know it is good for them. It can help cure ulcers, diarrhea and stomach cramps because it is high in potassium. If you sweat a lot and need energy, grab a banana. Many athletes consume bananas for energy and alertness. Have you ever seen an overweight monkey or athlete?
Healthy Foods Tip #7: Soy
The soybean is as close to a magic weight loss pill as you will ever find. No, you can not pop them into your mouth and watch the pounds melt away, but when you add soy into your daily diet, you will be amazed to see how quickly your health and weight loss improve at the same time. Soy-based protein smoothies helped me to lose 70 pounds in 4 months 15 years ago. And yes, I still have the weight off!
Healthy Foods Tip #8 Apples
An apple a day keeps the doctor away. It has vitamin C and pectin that flushes out toxins in our body. Toxins are probably the number one reason why people can not lose weight quickly when they eat healthy foods. Apples only work to your advantage when they are eaten raw, so dipping them into caramel sauce or cooking them into a pie will not keep the doctor away.
Healthy Foods Tip #9. Water
It may not be food but it is the most important part of your daily diet. Your body can not function properly if it is dehydrated, and most people do not drink as much as they should. Water also makes you feel full without any calories. Many times people reach for a snack when all they really need is a glass of water.
Along with a daily diet of the foods listed above, you need discipline and a willingness to reach your healthy weight loss goals. Most people get discouraged with losing weight when they fail to grasp the concept of living a healthy lifestyle. Once you develop this mindset, eating healthy will be part of your daily routine…and battling weight gain will be a thing of the past.

Lose Weight – Eat Healthy Foods for Natural Weight Loss

Excess pounds do not happen overnight yet we all wish we could wake up in the morning and have a slim trim figure. The truth is that this is not going to happen.
It is not all that complicated to lose weight by eating the right foods and maintaining a healthy weight. Most people know what is best and how to do it but are always looking for the quick-fix!
The best way to lose weight so that it stays off is to do it gradually by changing your eating habits and lifestyle, eat the right foods and move more. Choose foods which are high in complex carbohydrates, high in fiber, moderate in protein and low in fat.
Carbohydrates are your main source of energy and are found in bread, potatoes, pasta, yams, rice and grains. Many people wrongly believe that these foods are fattening. However, starchy foods are the staple diet worldwide. It is the butter, rich sauces and accompaniments that make them fattening. This type of food should supply about half your calorie intake for the day.
Fiber is split into two groups, soluble and insoluble and both are needed for your health.
Soluble fiber provides steadier flow of energy as it slows the rate of digestion in the stomach. Soluble fiber is found in foods such as porridge, lentils, dried apricots. Insoluble fats speed up the passage of waste as they provide bulk and helps move food waste quickly and easily.
Insoluble fiber is found in unrefined whole grains such as cereals, grains bran, wholemeal bread and such foods. Try to eat unrefined grains like unpeeled fruit and vegetables as much as possible. Do not overdo it though as you will soon start to feel bloated.
Protein. Foods in this group are meat, poultry, fish, eggs, nuts and seeds and should be eaten in moderation. Your daily calorie consumption should not consist of more than 15% of protein.
Fats. Nearly all the fat in foods contains fatty acids which are either saturated or monounsaturated or polyunsaturated. It is necessary to have some fats in your diet but too much leads to weight gain. The more healthy fats are found in oily fish such as mackerel, sardines, kippers and salmon, as well as rapeseed oil. These can be eaten more often.
Eat fewer amounts of sunflower seeds, sesame oil and walnuts. Keep dairy fats and solid fats to an absolute minimum.
A word of warning – although many manufacturers provide products that are ‘low in fat’ always read the label for calorie content and hidden sugars. Sometimes you can get just as many calories from these low-fat versions. The same applies to products that are labelled as fat-free.
If you want to lose weight naturally, you have to keep track of every food you eat and of every activity that you do. When you say natural weight loss this means that you do not have to use some accessories or helpful aids just to lose weight.
When you feel the urge for food coming on, snacking on something healthy such as a slice of whole-grain toasted bread is a better alternative. Never skip a meal and eat snacks instead because that is the worst thing you can do if you are trying to control your eating habits and weight. It is best to respond to hunger with healthy snacks.

Quick Weight Loss Program — Tips to find good ones

If you are looking in to a lose weight quick program, there are a few things that you should keep in mind when making your decision:
A weight loss program should include all of the foods recommended by the United States Department of Agriculture and should allow the dieter to eat enough calories to keep their metabolism working full force.
Set goals- If the program you are looking in to wants you to write down your weight loss goals, you may have found the right diet plan. Studies have shown that by setting goals for yourself, and writing them down, you are more apt to stick with your diet and reach your goals. Try setting small goals each week (such as to eat less fat or lose 1.5 pounds), these mini goals are not as overwhelming as larger goals, like losing 50 pounds in three months, or whatever your final goal may be. Also, by achieving these smaller goals, we see that we are making progress and are more likely to continue trying than if we don’t set any.
Calories are good- Yes, all quick weight loss program rules will tell you that you should limit your calorie intake per day if you are going to lose weight. But, cutting your calories too much can actually stall weight loss just as much as consuming too many calories per day. A good rule of thumb is to eat no less than 1,600 calories per day for men and 1,200 calories per day for women. Beware that some of these “lose weight fast” diets can be very unhealthy and can cause health problems of their own.
Exercise to speed losing weight – For our bodies to gain one pound, we must consume 3,500 more calories than our bodies burn. So, for every pound we want to lose, we must take 3,500 calories from our bodies. This can be achieved by either consuming fewer calories, or by raising our metabolism by exercise. A smart dieter on a quick weight loss program will cut calories to a healthy level and incorporate more exercise into their every day routines to flush more calories from their bodies. Of course, you can overdo exercise, so moderation is key for healthy weight loss.
A quick weight loss program must be healthy and allow the dieter to make healthy choices. Any diet that claims that a person can lose an unbelievable amount of calories in a very short amount of time is probably going to give unsound and unhealthy advice. A dieter should not have to cut out entire food groups from their diet to lose weight. Remember that our bodies work like machines, and all food groups serve a purpose in keeping our bodies functioning at an optimal level. By cutting calories too low, doing extreme amounts of exercising and/or only eating certain foods we can actually cause our bodies to shut down and stop working correctly. Don’t fall for the gimmicks. Work hard, set goals, and believe in yourself, and you can achieve anything you set your mind to.
