Healthy Lifestyles, Science – Happiness In Eight Steps to Bliss

As there was much interest in the healthy lifestyles issue of happiness that we discussed earlier that I will elaborate further. Besides,I have made a commitment that we will until at least I have memorized and incorporated each of these virtues as a natural matter of course.
As I still must look at my notes rather than close my eyes and speak all eight virtues not from memory but from more deeply and fully from my heart,it is a powerful reminder that God is not finished with me. And to be honest as Mark Twain would have said, I am not so sure about you too.
Scientists at the University of California measured thousands of people at various stages of life and found there were eight common variables among those who reported the happiest and most fulfilling lives, best health for their age group, active and helpful in local volunteer work, tended to believe in a God and an afterlife, and had no doubt they were going there, but were in no hurry. These attributes to bliss are:
1, Count Your Blessings. 2, Commit acts of kindness. 3, Savor the joys of Life. 4, Thank a mentor. 5, Learn to forgive. 6, Stay close to family and friends. 7, Take care of your body. 8, Develop strategies to cope with stress and hardship. And there you are
Science sees us as master apes who have convinced ourselves there is a God and a Heaven if we are good. Thus we grow up, as did I, knowing that Santa will not give us a lump of coal if we were good mostly all year.
We were often loved enough to receive these lessons or be taken to a bible or Sunday school and learn all these lessons, and go home feeling aglow if got to help a little old lady across the street on the way home. And what if we finally listen and find she didn’t want to cross the street?
Well,we get to help her back across the street. A boy scout can convince himself that was two good duties, but there is that little doubt, so you look for another little old lady on a street corner. This time you ask.
So even us Adams who God restricted on the communications skills and gave most Eves more intricate verbal circuits Up There, and a gent needs to have had a close relationship with his mom, which I did, to learn to just chat away. Mom knew everything, which seemed just so amazing.
Hopefully you can also tap into these more female virtues, and also share these marvelous memories. I recall asking mom why the government did not just print more money and give it to the poor, and while she was baking cookies she explained that inflation would then drive up the price of everything.
Mom had lived as a child in the brutal depression that now only third people experience, and had seen if we gave away too much and could not match it with income, we could be like the German people in the depression who had to take a wheelbarrow of their money to buy a loaf of bread.
And if you gents are lucky as I was and also have a sister and then daughters and then grand daughters you gradually find you chat along with them all with ease and lucky you, lucky me, thank you God.
They still expect you to be the man, fix the sink, scare off the bear, and I guess so does God but as women become the doctors it is a good thing.
So step by step, Count Your Blessings, and from the second day on Acts of Kindness could be carried out with elegance and grace by you, Mary Poppins, with your magic wand of happiness.

Healthy Lifestyles, Science Says Honey Is Best for Burns

Healthy lifestyles can be considered quaint when we have new chemical plants making highly expensive new cures, sometimes for maladies not worth the effort. And the discovery that honey will cure a burn up to four days faster than the most powerful new cures for burns.
So, using honey on a burn as the most effective is the tip of the iceberg of healthy lifestyles. It is your entire approach to life: how much you respect and love your inner being to care deeply and gently for you.
When it comes to scientific thinking before science there are surprises. Now even centuries after Egypt had faded as the power and the center of the civilized world, some of their knowledge knew better than we.
But in the past centuries when tombs were uncovered it was found that amidst all the dust and crumbling heirlooms, sealed jars of honey were found. When tasted and tested the honey still tasted and tested as fresh after having been sealed for thousands of years.
And since then we have imported gun powder from the east and built empires everywhere that have come and gone as have the tides of Canute.
And grand advisers and wise men have made their fortunes finding new potions that would cure many matters that ail us. And through history one constant issue is burns to the body whether by poor housing and candles, or mobs with torches.
So many potions have been devised over the centuries to deal with injuries and burns, and any study of evolving science shows this. Almost with hilarity from a century ago were the many remedies that often contained opium as well as horse manure.
Now a study comes to us that suggest that antique science books may have had it right before we got to this century with all our brilliant science bringing us sterile modern gauze, and antibiotic creams with exceptional new high power capacities to heal? Surely.
Well, wrong. In a review of 15 studies, New Zealand researchers found that burned skin covered with honey healed as much as four days faster than skin treated with antibiotic creams and sterile wound dressings.
Lead study author P.C. Molan, Ph.D says honey is ideal because it rapidly soothes the pain, promotes healing, and prevents further damages.
The next burn in your family deserves that you cool the skin with cold water and then spread ample honey on some clean gauze and apply it to the burn. Change the dressing twice a day. And if it is more severe, of course, see your doctor. If you lived in ancient Egypt, this knowledge was available at your local wise man, even if he might have killed you in some other remedy.
I also put honey in my tea, as one way to get some of the healing power inside as well. Solid honey has more anti oxidants, and could be melted down easily for application, although liquid honey would be quicker in an emergency. Best to keep some of both around for the security of your healthy lifestyles. Here’s to your good health.
Derek Dashwood notices how healthy lifestyles so often have a benefit that science confirms long after many of us had known. Such as news that honey is the most effective treatment to allow burns to heal: up to four days before the most effective known new antibiotic creams and sterile wound dressings. We discuss this at

Healthy Lifestyles, Science, Happiness – Be Mary Poppins One Week

Those in search of healthy lifestyles to increase their personal comfort and ease with their sense of well being and happiness have found comfort that it has now been measured. And can be lived so easily as it is the truth as was taught to us in kindergarten or Sunday school.
University of California researchers, as we have mentioned, found after extensive research that there were eight common factors between those who reported the highest degree of personal satisfaction with their lives, lived longest and had least times in hospital or under medical care through their lives.
These life winners also generally reported a belief in an after life, were most positive in their outlooks and active in volunteer work, and more inclined to put effort into making right a wrong than complain about it. These common factors were:
1. Count Your Blessings.
2. Practice Acts of Kindness.
3. Savor the Joys of Life.
4. Thank a Mentor.
5. Learn to Forgive.
6. Invest Time and Energy with Family and Friends.
7. Take care of Your Body.
8. Develop Strategies to Cope With Stress and Hardships.
This wisdom is that of which we all innately know and knew when we were told to share in kindergarten. And yet by the time we have fought our way up and down the ladders of life we do toughen up by the blows by the moment, even if we are still ill prepared for one more disaster if it comes at us now, or at any time while we try to struggle with the events of the day. So here is what we do.
We need to imprint each of these into our now thick skulls, which do not do well at incorporating these eight great ways to joy into your brain so it “sticks”. That is when an event so unforgettable occurs, we also memorize what we were doing. All of an age remember what they were doing the moment they heard of Pearl Harbor, or in my case where I was(at a gas station) when news came of the shooting of President Kennedy.
So, if you make each of these eight great ways one great day in your working and personal life,, you will find it difficult to ever forget. Your brilliance may earn you a raise, promotion, dunce cap but with a gold star on it. Remember, Cary Grant so often played the elegant clown. So, here we go, and you of course adapt as it tweaks to you. You want to impress with your acting out, it would be good to get permission from the boss and suggest it will be good for moral. It will.
Day One: You are “Count, or Countess Your Blessings” as from the popular children’s show. You arrive elegantly dressed, a scarf and borrowed fancy hat for the Count, and great adornment for the Countess. A rose in your label, men, a deep bow and How Do You Do to all, You are “Count Your Blessings” for the day, in a psychological study you will explain later. Every now and then, you announce one of your blessings. Make sure the name of each in earshot gets a mention, to the amusement of all.
Day Two, this gets a bit icky for the gents, Great Fun for the ladies: you need to be dressed and happy about it to represent “Acts of Kindness”. Cary Grant and you ladies would have the cahones to wear a sparkling skirt and tiara and carry a wand and magic umbrella while he or she serves tea, but I do not.
So you gents could still dress like the Count and just do these things all eight days of this foolishness. So do acts of kindness till they say Cary I can pull my own chair in, thank you. Make it through the day with your angelic smile with each kind act.
But for you ladies this is your moment, Mary Poppins. The gentlemen might lose status if they tried to be Dick Van Dyke as the dustman; best to be Count Your Blessings instead.
Thank a Mentor. Careful about this, spread it around, think about it. You popping into the bosses office every half hour is going to earn you a Brown Nose Award with your fellows. But thank all in your family, your friends, associates, even children and grand children who have taught you how to love more deeply.
Learn to forgive. And you can do that sometimes with one you have been in a dispute with for so long that the more you recall, before it came to shouts he had a point from the way he saw it. I had such a case and about a year ago I walked up to him and said I owed him an apology and I had given him the impression he had the job until a closer friend did it better for less.
But I also had not handled it well, and I did not want to go to my grave with he and I, both decent men, with an understanding. He then apologized to me and we shook hands and parted much warmer friends than we had ever been. Since then, when he and I pass each other I receive such a friendly wave and deep smile and the crinkly eyes of a friend. So learn to forgive that way too.
How do you dress to show you invest time and energy with friends and family should be easy. Slippers under your desk? Teddy bear and good night stories as your homework for lunch? The more quizzical looks you receive, the more you will remember. Carry a fuzzy bear in the passenger seat if you drive alone to work. The more we age the more true it can become. I belong to a dart team, who also dance, go on hikes, and I do it some times when I do not feel like it, but always end up having fun. With family, and grand children, it is always a joy and more a question, when can we get all together with busy lives, so some days adjust as part time jobs but those should always be mutual admiration meetings, private issues worked out between social gatherings.
How to be attired to show you take care of your body is something you know, how close to tennis gear and your tennis racket in the corner of your executive suite, or cubicle, would help the mood. We need to keep re learning as so much has been learned in the last half century, or decade even. But the old maxims still hold true. Healthy lifestyles, diet, thoughts, actions, respect to keep ingesting natural nutrients every few hours during morning and afternoon daylight. Organic has recently tested as 40 percent more healthy than those sprayed with insecticides.
Develop strategies to cope with stress and hardship. OK, Mr Count and Mary Poppins, this is a challenge. Do you fall and say just practicing my tumble roll? If you have survived imprinting these other seven elements to happiness, you can end with a bang. As long as you care for your body while you enrich your joy. Enjoy!

Science, Healthy Lifestyles, Global Warming – Yes, Canada Has Bananas

As science tells us, if there is any hope of us or our grand children living healthy lifestyles, we need to look at changing realities and do as peoples have done since time immemorial. If every factory in your town is slated to be closed down, vote with your feet if you must, to get to where the future is happening.
If you live in an old industry town and are worried that your job is on the way to China, then hit the books, study, and get north and west, where the resource needs are. As the wisdom and knowledge builds, we know we need to adjust our current ways.
We need to begin to reverse much of our profligate and foolish ways. It creates an unstable economy when America purchases and then borrows from China to buy oil from the unstable middle east. There is a future for you in any technical degree you get, or in skills training, or how to help Grizzly Bears and Polar bears get along as the Grizzly arrives at the Arctic.
All this messy extraction now combines with serious tree planting. Also there is more and more experimental growing of crops farther north than ever before. The future is all being rehearsed and begun as we speak.
There are serious ways you can make a difference. They are mining diamonds up where those bears are creating a new species.
You could do any of those yourself. A reverse pipeline is going to bring oil from dear old Canada next door.
Very luckily for America there is a stable, friendly democracy right next door that has as much oil as Arabia, or Venezuela, which is huge.
Soon a pipeline will be being build from Alberta Canada down past the Hannibal of Mark Twain. The Canadian oil will supply Minneapolis, Milwaukee, and the neighbors around and including Chicago, then reverse the historic Texas supplied oil now almost gone.
So now oil flows south down the Mississippi to the Gulf at New Orleans. Where those Houston refineries will soon receive their oil not from cranky Venezuela but from friendly Canada, and as always then distribute to America. And so whether you get your degree in oil or diamonds, bountiful duties are ahead of you.
Or forestry skills if you have brains to master, there is work to be done out west. And dear lady for you, is a chance to be part of the crew. Make sure you have worked and listened and learned.
And the future is yours, which you will have earned.
Derek Dashwood notices how science is finally overwhelming in the acceptance the global warming is happening. And for us to be able to live healthy lifestyles while we all adjust is vital. We discuss this at further length at Healthy Lifestyles
